Liturgical Ministry Letter

September 18, 2018

Dear Liturgical Ministers,

Please find enclosed the Sunday Mass Schedule for the 4th Quarter of 2018 for Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and Altar Servers (youth and adult). This schedule also covers three Holy Days of Obligation:  Nov. 1, 2018 / Feast of All Saints,  Dec. 8, 2018 / Immaculate Conception of BVM and January 1, 2019 / Solemnity of Mary Mother of God.

Several reminders:

Lectors should check in with each other in the sacristy before Mass.

Servers should be in the sacristy and vested 15 min. before the start of Mass.

Older Youth Servers please do your best to assist our younger servers.  If your name appears on the schedule with + next to your name then we have designated you as a Senior Server with the duty to assist younger servers assigned with you.

All Ministries:  If you are unable to attend a scheduled Mass please find a substitute.  Do not call the parish office, Linda Franks or Deacon Franks or Deacon Kennedy asking them to find someone.  It is your responsibility to make sure the assigned Mass is covered.

Eucharistic Ministers are reminded to please be aware of their assigned positions (Distribution of the Precious Blood resumes this schedule.).

Eucharistic Ministers are asked to be aware that there will be times when there may be additional ministers (in Alb and cincture) in the sanctuary.  If that is the case we may not need the full complement of EMs that are scheduled.  If the extra person is standing on the altar platform next to the priest or deacon that will indicate that they will be assisting with Holy Communion and someone should stay back. I know it is confusing but we do not like to have to send folks back once they have come forward.

Also, if you will be away during January, February and March 2019, please let us know no later than December 1, 2018 so we do not schedule you while you are away.  Just drop us a line at deaconmikefranks@verizon.net. Or leave a message at the rectory office (215-679-9275).

Christmas Schedule 2018: If you would like to be assigned for Christmas please let us know by Dec. 10, 2018.  Anticipated Mass times are Dec. 24 (Christmas Eve):  5:00 PM, 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM and on Dec. 25 (Christmas Day):  10:00 AM.  You can send an email to deaconmikefranks@verizon.net or you can call the rectory (215-679-9275) and leave your information. You can also drop a note in the Sunday collection basket.

Please Note – Very Important:  We are asking that everyone please look at the minister lists that accompany the schedule and verify that we have the correct phone numbers for you.  If the number listed is incorrect please send message containing the correct number to deaconmikefranks@verizon.net.  We no longer communicate through email as addresses change.  Check the bulletin for schedules or go on line at the parish website:  www.spnparish.org.

Again, thank you all for your dedication in assisting at Sunday Mass.

Linda Franks

Seeking Friendly Visitors

The Friendly Visitor Ministry is a Social Service Program which began August 2001.

Our F.V. call on the homebound either at their residence, in their independent living facility, or in a Nursing Home.

There are several active Visitors in our parish who live the Gospel by visiting lonely parishioners on a weekly; bi-weekly or monthly schedule – whatever is appropriate and convenient for them.

We would like to have more Visitors!  If this type of ministry sounds appealing to you, please consider calling the Parish Outreach Office Coordinator, Joan Lampart at 215.679.9275.  We will be happy to answer your questions.

For more information, please visit the Friendly Visitor page.

Homemade Egg Rolls

One of St. Philip’s parishioners generously donates her time and cooking talent to making homemade egg rolls. These are made to order. The cost is $1/egg roll. All profits are donated to the church. Quantities of 50 or more may be ordered by calling or emailing the main office a few days in advance – 215.679.9275 or ofcmgr@spnparish.org.
