On Wednesday, May 24th, the SPN Senior Club held its monthly gathering with 101 members in attendance.
Guests were immersed in the one-woman play, “From Out the Fiery Furnace.” The drama told the story of the Hopewell Furnace National Park’s history during the Furnace’s golden time in the 1850’s. Written and performed by playwright Christine Emmert, she said, “the piece depicted the role of many residents of that community over the years – from a small girl who comes there as an indentured servant to a runaway slave, to the men and women who were involved in the fortunes and misfortunes of life there.” She also mentioned, “The play has been touring the area for nine years to many different organizations to show history can be alive and moving.” After her captivating performance, Emmert stated that this performance was dedicated to the memory of Hopewell park ranger Francis Delmar who recently passed away. Emmert has had a long career as an actress and playwright. She resides in Valley Forge with her husband, Richard, who accompanied her to the performance.
Monthly winners were announced at the end of the get-together. Rose Anderson was our May birthday winner, Mark Nunan won the Door Prize and Bob Cichocki was the 50/50 jackpot winner.
Please plan to join us on Wednesday, June 28th for our next luncheon and remember to make your reservation. See the flyer in the Parish Bulletin.
